Over the weekend.

Wow, what a busy weekend. With Robert’s help, Mike and I put some serious sweat equity into our house. As you recall, Friday we had 23 sheets of drywall in the basement. Today, some of those sheets have become walls, bathroom walls.

Here are a few pics.

This will be the laundry room on the right, sink on the left.

We also purchased our tile and hope to start laying it down soon. Of course I will keep you posted.

The Glamorous Life.

So how do you imagine the life of a successful (somewhat) clothing designer. Reviewing models and late night meetings with clients over cocktails? How about traveling to exotic photo shoot locations? Well that may be the life of some, but not me. This weekend I am hanging drywall.

Mike and I live in a 1926 Tudor and we have been diligently remodeling it for the past five years. We are currently working in the basement, changing it from a coal storage area to a nice, warm and livable space. We are building a huge bathroom, an office and a very large den.

With the help of our friend Robert Maas we have been able to tackle projects that Mike and I could never have done on our own. The latest example of the great help Robert has given us is the basement. He laid new pipe, wired the rooms for electricity and helped us build plumb walls. Thanks a million Robert.

So here we are, ready to hang drywall in the basement. Here are a few pictures of the pre-drywall basement. Look for some pics of the finished product later.

15 tons, what do you get?

As you can tell, it is less than glamorous, but the feeling of accomplishment is great.

New tunes from and old favorite.

I wanted to post the new song from The Pet Shop Boys here on the blog for a few reasons.  First, I love The Pet Shop Boys.  Growing up their music was a rainbow light in the darkness of my small town.  As dramatic as it sounds their music showed me that there were others out there like me, having the same feelings.

The second reason I wanted to share the song with you is because I love the song.  It has a great message, a good beat and Neil’s voice has the same haunting, poignant, relaxed urgency that it has always had.  Listen to the lyrics.  It get the message that it is OK to be who you are.  What do you get?

The last reason I posted the song is because I think the video rocks!  I love the colors, the graphics and the way the “camera” flies thought on the bridge, brilliant.

So here it is, enjoy.

New Logo.

Filed under: about us, business, design, introduction — Tags: , , — admin @ 1:33 pm

Hello internet,

I must apologies to those of you who came to the blog last month hoping to find our new logo. I had a back-of-house computer problem that deleted a month of posts. Oh well, live and learn.

Because there was so much interest in seeing the new logo I thought I would re-post it.

Wringer Tee will be one year old on February 19th and we are planning a lot of cool things for our birthday. We want to encourage customer participation at all levels while still bringing you the same, high-quality indie shirts you loved in our first year.

Our brand statement is “Bright, Fun and Independent”. We feel that this sums up the type of shirts we want to design and the type of company we want to be.

So here it is, our new logo.

Mid-Century Chairs.

So our friends Robert and Jody have two kids Ethan and Owen. Both are great kids and a great deal of fun. Last week Ethan, the oldest, had his 6th birthday and Mike and I were invited to celebrate. The party was fun as were the much need beer breaks throughout.

On our way back home we passed two chairs out on someones driveway, marked as free. As we passed I only caught a passing glance at the two chairs but noticed a telling sweep of the legs.

I had Mike turn around to get a closer look at the chairs and I fell in love. Looking beyond the very bad 80’s fabric on the chair, the beauty of the wood work and the classic mid-century form shone through.

Mike and I rushed home and I got in the truck and did something I have never done before. I picked up free goods on the side of the road! Here are the chairs.

I love the wood work and the sweep of the back leg.

Please look past the really bad fabric.

I feel a little bad for who ever let these chairs go, but not that bad. I will re-post some pictures when I get them re-finished.

A reflection on hope.

I thought today, as President Barack Obama is sworn in and a new American age dawns, I would take to my computer and write down what has been kicking around in my head for weeks. What is hope?

The dictionary defines hope as “desire with expectation of obtainment”. To me, on this day, it is so much more; it is a call to action. When I was younger hope was a longing for something that was never or rarely realized. What my years have shown me and what today and our 44th president have proven to me is that hope is a call to action to realize my dreams through hard work, sacrifice and common purpose.

Today I feel connected to all Americans in a way I have never felt before. The feeling is humbling and empowering; new yet familiar. I feel that I can do anything I put my mind to yet with the help of others I can do more than my mind has ever imagined.

Hope is something else, it is contagious. I encourage you to share your hope with those around you.

All my best,

David

Strangercrombie 2008

Filed under: business — admin @ 11:56 am

Wringer Tee is very excited to be a part of this year’s Strangercrombie.   Strangercrombie is a local Seattle holiday auction sponsored by The Stranger.  The auction boasts very unique and one-of-a-kind packages.  All auctions proceeds go to Treehouse a wonderful foster kid charity here in Seattle.

Wringer Tee has donated one of every t-shirt in our catalog to Strangercrombie!  The package can be found here.  Of course the package is called “For The Person Who Has Everything”.  There is no better gift to give that one person who has everything than a t-shirt (or catalog of t-shirts) that no one else has.

The bidding on all the packages ends December 12th at 5:00 pm so go get your bids in now, before it is too late.

Thread show sale, 30% off!

Filed under: Thread Show, Uncategorized, trade shows — admin @ 8:59 pm

The Seattle Thread show was a huge success and a great learning experience.  It was our first show so we had no idea what to expect.  What we learned is that there are many talented companies out there with some great clothes.  We also learned that the fashion community is supportive and ready to help and work together.

I also love to get in front of the customers.  As I have said before, the web is great and has been good to us but I get a great thrill when I see someone respond to one of our designs.

I always love to give you all a pic so here I am, tending the store.

I was also inspired help those that could not make the show afford a Wringer Tee shirt at the same prices we listed at the show.  From now until January 1st, 2009 we are taking 30% off all our shirts.  So get started now shopping for the Holiday season or just get that one-of-a-kind shirt you have always wanted at a great price.

Great talking with you again.  Until next time, wring your neck.

David
